Bradford Council was last night urged to better map their communities and "monitor tensions" in a bid to stop any repeat of the riots in 2001.

Communities Secretary Hazel Blears published new guidance encouraging local authorities to work towards more integrated communities.

She wants councils to map the racial, ethnic and faith communities in their areas in order to identify potential "tension hotspots" and improve cohesion.

Mrs Blears said: "The overwhelming majority of people in this country live successfully side by side but we cannot take this for granted. Challenges to cohesion do exist, but things can be done to address problems at the earliest opportunity and stop things escalating.

"We have made £50 million available to local authorities to support them in responding to these specific challenges and placed a much greater focus on integration - including an end to automatic translation and more emphasis on English language learning."

The Council should make better use of data from police, neighbourhood wardens and community leaders.

Bradford Council leader Kris Hopkins said: "There is a degree of stating the obvious. We take responsibility for our part in making sure we have a peaceful and cohesive approach."

Is this just a case of the ghastly Blears trying to justify her role (not for the first time)?

One really has to wonder where some of these councillors and this Minister live as it clearly not on this planet.

More than half the cars in certain should not be on the roads and yet the Police dare not do anything about this in case they do spark a riot.

They dare not conduct stop and search in areas other than the leafy suburbs.

Bradford is a no-go area for many residents and certainly for the Police.

I'm happy where I live, it they start intergrating others into our area thats when the tensions rise and the problems begin.

We all know where the blame of the riots in 2001, at's it's super clear to those looking and what business were destroyed in the areas involved.

If people said it how it was rather than the dreamy world of care bears they make us believe we live then and only then can things change.

There is very little tension in Bradford, the problem Bradford and England face is the fact that things are run by incompetent leaders
, if you ask the people on the street of Bradford about any tension, they response will be what tension
The home secretary
and various other senior figures are always blaming the people of the country for the problems, when in actual fact they have know understanding as to how common folk think and what is actually going on the streets

can’t see any problems, for if you survey the upper adornments of Bradfords Mosque, you will see that the Crescent is now a Circle. The crescent represents progress. The white represents Minorities and the dark green field represents the Muslim majority. The Pakistan Flag was designed by Ameer-ud-din Khidwai, and the Crescent and the Star leads the way to progress and perfection. That perfection referred to is ultimately world domination, whereby all will be seconded or obliterated, as per the Quran. As too whether or not we are aware, certain concessions and directives would suggest that is the case.

No tension, your having a laugh. Jesus you can see it everybodies eyes when your in Bradford. Especially the poor sods who decided they would just nip in to pay their coucil tax, or visit that nice shop that fixed my shoes the last time. They get off the bus and look like they've just seen their parents cut in two.
Bradford's dreadful, it stinks, its scruffy, it's got people selling balloons and candyfloss walking the streets for god sake. It's looking more and more like a very poor third world country.
Car's milling around, illegal parking, no seat belts, but why wear one if you've no licence.
And before someone starts bleating on that all cities have the above, most of them have the 'positive' to paper over the cracks and cover the negative aspects of what was the United kingdom!!...Is that an iceberg I see?

West Yorks Plod - It has been identified that there is an imbalance in Police activity in this field with available data suggesting that people from minority ethnic backgrounds are more likely to be Stopped and Searched per 1000 of population, compared with white people. Extensive research into the reasons for this has been inconclusive. However, the Force acknowledges this as an issue and continues to take steps to discover reasons behind this, and to act as appropriate.

Yes, Bradford is an impoverished dump with all the social problems that includes, but I don't think racial tension is one of them. I go about my daily life as happy as Larry, I don't feel threatened or intimidated by anyone, certainly not on any racial grounds. Fear is in the mind of the Fearer!
