Woman in fatal bus crash named

Police have named a woman who died following an accident involving a bus and another vehicle.

Patricia Cope, 68, of Carr House Gate, Wyke, Bradford, suffered facial injuries when the single decker First bus she was travelling on was in the accident in Canal Road last Saturday.

She was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where she died on Monday.

About 20 people were travelling on the 675 service to Cottingley but no-one else was injured. The driver stopped and called for an ambulance.

The driver of the other vehicle drove off and is being hunted by police.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said Mrs Cope's injuries were not initially believed to be life-threatening.

She said: "We are appealing to the drivers of a red car and a silver car who stopped at the scene to help. We also wish to speak to the driver of a car that was following the bus and any drivers that had to take evasive action."

A First said spokesman: "This is a tragic incident and we would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the family."

Anyone with information about the incident, including other passengers on the bus, should contact PC 4840 Cole on (01274) 376646.
