    Man critical after crash

A man is critically ill in hospital after a head-on crash last night.

The man, who has not been named, was a front seat passenger in a blue Toyota Yaris which was in collision with a Freelander in Dalton Lane, Keighley, just after 9pm. The vehicles were travelling in opposite directions.

Firefighters from Keighley and Bingley had to cut three youths free from the Toyota Yaris by removing the whole of the car's side.

And they had to take off the Freelander's roof to lift out a female passenger who had suspected neck and spinal injuries.

The casualties were all taken to Airedale General Hospital at Steeton but the Yaris's front seat passenger was later transferred to Leeds General Infirmary where he is in a critical condition.

Police, who had had to seal off the road while emergency services were at the scene, have put out an appeal for witnesses.

Anyone who saw the cars either before or after the incident should call PC 2207 Hirst at Keighley Road Traffic on (01535) 606817.
