Auction trading remains strong
Trading at the March Craven dairy auction remained strong despite the number of entries being curtailed by the bluetongue scare that has hit parts of North Yorkshire.
New bluetongue surveillance zones restricted entries from Harrogate and beyond but the sales at Skipton Auction Mart still attracted a quality entry of 28.
Supreme champion for the fifth time was Robert Phillip, of Hellifield, with a pedigree Holstein Friesian heifer.
The victor was sold for £1,900 to auction regular buyer Henry Wilson, of Kelbrook.
The top price of £2,200 was paid for second prize winner, a heifer from Brian Moorhouse, of Bell Busk.
Another show regular, Robert Crisp, of Calton, had a clean sweep of the prizes in the newly-calven cows section.
The next Craven Dairy Auction takes place on Monday, April 21.
