Town split up to improve services

A shake-up of decision-making and public consultation in Keighley has been approved.

Keighley Area Committee is splitting the town into specific areas based around council wards.

Each ward will have three areas responding to well-defined neighbourhoods such as villages or estates.

Residents of the neighbourhoods will work directly with the agencies that serve them. Organisations like the police, health service and Bradford Council departments will localise their work. Bradford councillors in each ward will act as "community champions" for their three areas.

The aim is that future services and improvement projects will better meet the needs of each neighbourhood.

The new "ward-based neighbourhood development framework" was approved by the area committee.

It will guide how the council consults local people through events like neighbourhood forums, youth forums and fun days.
