Macca: Our best is yet to come
 |
| Sam Burgess was one of five Bulls try-scorers against Warrington |
Bulls boss Steve McNamara is excited by what his side will be able to produce when they are all fully fit and firing.
Bradford picked up a gritty 32-24 success over Harle-quins last night to complete their Easter weekend.
They started on fire, racing into an 18-0 lead through tries from Sam Burgess, Dave Halley and David Solomona before getting pegged back.
But McNamara's injury-hit squad started making up for their debacle at Leeds and the coach was pleased with the
end result, if not all of the performance.
"We were desperate to get a game under our belts after Thursday night and wanted to play again," he said.
"We started pretty well and were very fluent. We looked quick, pushing hard for one another and executing with some good skill but our bodies took over after 25 minutes.
"We hit some real flat spots. I can't be too harsh but I'm certainly not happy with our overall 80 minutes.
"However, we showed it in patches again that we've got some ammunition there and we'll be a threat once we get everyone back on the park and fresh." Bradford are still not yet back in the top six, just ousted by Harlequins on points difference, but McNamara said: "We've won three out of four without playing particularly well.
"The signs are there further down the track. We'll batten down the hatches now, we're hanging in and finding ways to win. We did that last night.
"Quins were very good in the second half but we're just thankful we've got the points."
McNamara had special praise for hard-grafting props Andy Lynch and Sam Burgess, who defied injuries and huge fatigue to set the lead last night.
"Lynch and Burgess deserve a medal for going out there like that, they shouldn't really have been out there," he said.
Harlequins boss Brian McDermott, who made over 250 appearances for Bradford, admitted the result could have been different if his side had applied their game in the first half.
"We certainly had more than enough chances to win that match," said McDermott, after seeing them bomb twice towards the death.
"The first ten minutes killed it. We didn't seem to have any resistance near our line and that hacked me off."

A 12 - 2 second half score and 2 butchered Quins tries the players should be ashamed for me that's as bad a performance as the Leeds game.

Nevermind it's yet to come...we want it now! We're falling off the pace. Fans want to see effort week-in week-out, not in glimpses! If Leeds can hit their straps now, then why can't the Bulls? I don't know about the rest of you, but i'm sick of the old cliches! With the squad we have, we should have been more than a match for Leeds, Saints and Wigan!

And I can still hear the 'do gooders' saying "get off their backs, we'll finish at the top by the end of the season, It'll all come right" I say lets get one thing clear. These players are not performing for Macca. I am fed up with people saying its not Maccas fault but the players must do it on the pitch. The truth is, if a coach cannot get the respect of his players. If they do not fear him or respect his qualities then it is time to get someone in who they will fear and/or respect. IMO performances are all about a coach and how much he can get from his players. Macca can't even turn a team out that looks like it wants to win. I have critcised Macca but as yet have not called for him to be sacked, however it is time we started seeing some committment. No matter how many injuries there are the players (as quins did) should all show pride in their shirt!!

I went last night for the first time in about 2 years and i wont be rushing back! 7th place looks about right for where they will finish this year. Crowd was appalling aswell. 8k was it??? Absolutely no atmosphere either. about 20 quins fans that were there made more noise than the rest of odsal. Only players that looked any good good last night were Deacon (makes some good hits and yards given his size), Burgess (massive threat) and Halley (getting better with every game and looks more assured at fullback.

I think one underlying issue seems to be coming to the fore, PRIDE! The fans are getting frustrated because we are all proud Bulls fans. It's a shame that some of the players aren't showing the same pride when out there. They have a sign up in the changing room saying Brutal, Uncompromising, Lethal, Loyal, Solid! Not one of them seems to be sinking in! Oh and Iestyn Harris is completely useless! He's done nothing this year, we've lost nearly every game he's been in and he insists on throwing intercept passes. I'd rather see Crookes on the bench!

Same old excuses, week after week. The second half was as bad as the Leeds humiliation and two glaring errors from the Quins allowed us to escape a second embarrassment. Our team is simply too slow in all aspects but it is particularly noticable in our passing and play the ball.In reality instead of improving after our sluggish start we have actually got worse!

give it a few more games and it will be like the old northern days 4,000 crowds and teams looking at as us thinking 2 easy points.

I said a few weeks ago that we're playing like a team that don't expect be there next year. Are they really expecting the Bulls to go under? If so, why not just let us all in on the secret so we don't have to waste our money!

Those bemoaning performances at the moment need to remember the number of injuries we have. Also the quality of the the squad has gone right down since 2005 for a number of reasons, to lay all that at McNamara's door is a bit harsh I reckon.

Hape doesn't look interested, Nero has gone from solid as a rock in preseason to missing tackles for fun, Tadulala was brought in for pace and not so long back got caught by Andy Coley, possibly the worst GB international ever picked!
Plus, Quins have injuries, Cas have injuries, Wakey have injuries even Saints managed to trample us with one front rower!

Totally garbage yesterday and they would have lost if the Quins hadn't been so bad in attack.
Still even after a performance like that all the Quins players went over to the 12 quins fans to applaud them for their support. Shame we can't say the same about the Bulls after Thrusday's match.
I've supported them and defended them all along but that was totally unacceptable.

I wonder how many Leeds players would dare to play like that for Mclennon or Saints Players for Anderson. Our coach may be exonerated by some on here but I can tell you, He appears to lack authority. The coach is no different to a good business manager. Only a strong and respected manager gets results and only a business manager with a good business plan will have success. If a team is not performing the chairman does not get rid of the players. He sacks the coach and if he replaces him with the right man he gets success, why?? because the really good coaches always get success. Now please.. will people stop defending Macca its his fault the players are not performing, no one elses and unless he shows some kind of strategy and authority soon and stops praising the players for playing as they are he'll have to go.Bagsy's talk of injuries simply can't be right..no matter who plays they should have fire in their bellies injuries or not.

Wake up Mr Hood!!!!
Instead of calling on Bulls fans to support the Rhinos (still cant believe that one!!)
If you havnt realised the Bulls are a shadow of what they used to be, the crowd have!!
Very soon we could be playing spot the Bulls fan at Odsal.
SM is starting to talk rubbish, and it just wont wash!!
So wakey, wakey Mr Hood time to act!!!

Had they brought a decent amount it would have been near an average gate which wouldn't have been bad considering. Also we've managed 3 wins out of the last four only losing to Leeds away so I wouldn't get hysterical like you two. Did either of you two go to the game last night by the way if you're complaining about attendances?
Fact is they have been garbage so far this season but they haven't gone that far that they can't salvage anything from the season.
I just hope that the players respond on Sunday because if they think that last night made up for Thursday they are miles away.

I was also a Vice president ticket holder at the Bulls for many years so please don't talk fans to me. If you call criticism hysteria then yes, I can see you have the same mindset as Macca who seems to react in the same manner. No offence meant buy the way.

We see it as lack of action from you 'pacifists' who, quite frankly find it hard to say a wrong word against anyone at the club. We see this as dangerous and likely to cause further decline.
On the other hand we feel it pays to criticise where criticism is due and it certainly is due at the moment. This criticism is designed to make things happen.

Wittering s**theads! Give it a REST all of you, this is hysterical codswallop you're all talking! Macnamara's job is to lift his players, work with his players and get them going forwards, there isn't a coach in the world who'll do what some of you expect and comne and out lambast them because that will make everything 10 times worse! Now we've had the good time a plenty with the Bulls, this is a tough start and noone's enjoying it but we need to support the bloody team and shuttup drivelling on like old women!

I'm with Brian and micksey on this one. all those that are calling for maccas head, just who would you put in his place at this time in the season, and please don't say jimmy lowes.
getting rid of a coach so early in the season is absolute rubbish. who have we lost to....wigan, away. saints at home, wakey, away and leeds away. there are no easy teams in super league and no one team has a right to be at the top. it's the turn of leeds at the moment but not many seasons ago they were s***e and winning nothing, did they sack their coaches??? what about jon sharpe at huddersfield, are they calling for his head or peter sharpe at hull? come on get real. I'm not happy with the way we are playing but moaning like hell isn't going to do anything other than send your own blood pressure soaring. if you haven't any practical suggestions then stop moaning, and just saying get rid of macca isn't practical.

We are talking ourselves into decline. 'Mayhem', 'garbage', 'Macnamara sacked'. 8 games into a season when we have won 3 out of our last 4????? When we're racked with injuries and putting a new team together????
If things are still the same at the season's end then fair enough but until then please, be an adult. It's SPORT and those who demand comprehensive victory after comprehensive victory simply don't get it.

I think the above point about talking ourselves into decline is absolutely BANG ON! This is the time when good supoorters rally round and lift the players not the opposite.

First of all I have never used te words 'garbage' or "Macnamara sacked" These words have come from others. Plus as I draw my winter fuel allowancw I do consider myself an adult and as I have watched Northern /Bulls for most of my life I do know a little about RL and situations such as the one the Bulls are in now. Forums are there for all of us to discuss these aspects and we are all very unlikely to have the same opinions. Just because someone may not have the same opinion as you does not mean you should name-call or class thm as childish, in fact not being able to accept a differing view to your own is indeed more like childishness. But as regards the game.. someone has already mentioned Wigan as a benchmark for gates actually going up when they are loosing and you know why?? because they don't sit back and do nothing. They are notorious for sacking the coach and bringing in a new face and new players and the crowds keep coming. I know we can't afford to do the same as Wigan but there is a point there , that sacking a coach who is not getting results is not necessarily a bad thing.

Actually, I'm wondering..If we have won 3 out of 4 Shouldn't Macca be named Coach of the Month??

Since John Monie won the title in 98 (I think) they've had no stability and consequently ended up nearly getting relegated (many would argue they should have done). You have to give the guy time to sort out the long term problems at the club. For what it's worth I think a man who played for us with distinction in a title winning side deserves a bit more support than he's getting from some on here.
Leeds didn't win the SL until 2004 yet their crowds went up year on year despite us giving them some terrible beatings.

Changing coaches can lead to all sorts of probs. I was really suggesting it might work in the context of arresting falling gates and Bulls haven't arrived at that stage yet. I don't expect Macca to be sacked and I'm sure He'll get all the time to correct things as you suggest. As a young coach it is an enormous task to halt a slide in performances and a task many experienced coaches dread. Should he in fact turn things around he'll be hailed as a hero!! Good luck to him I say.

i agree with those calling for macca's head, he isnt gettin the players up when there at a low point, he shud hav taught them a fing or 2 and we would hav hammered harlequins, no offence to them but we should be beating them convincingly.
also what's the betting that come sunday, platt will be back in the side? when dave halley is a much better player, faster and isnt scared to just run in2 tackles unlike platty who tiptoes, we payed good money for him but he needs to go back to his old self, the 1 we bought him for.
but halley cannot be dropped, the form he is showing is awesome and he is easily the best bulls player at mo.

SHUD HAV, FING??? I THINK SOMEONE ELSE NEEDS TEACHING A "FING" OF 2! there are no easy teams in s/l now so to suggest that one team should be beaten conbincingly is utter rubbish.
