McCall ready to do the shuffle
|
| Stuart McCall may be tempted to blood some of City's youngsters once League Two survival has been assured |
Stuart McCall is planning an Easter rotation policy - whatever the result at Rotherham on Saturday.
The City boss is expected to make changes for the Yorkshire derby after the dismal display against Mansfield.
And he will shuffle the pack again for the Bank Holiday Monday home clash with Chesterfield.
"Having two games in three days will definitely see me change the side," he said.
"However we get on against Rotherham, I will change it about and add a bit of freshness on Monday."
McCall is likely to blood a few youngsters in the closing stages of a season that he has already admitted he cannot wait to end.
But he may hold fire until City are past the 50-point barrier which is usually seen as the safety mark against relegation.
"There will come a stage for that but at this moment in time we still need a couple of wins to make sure," said McCall.
"No one will throw in the kids more than I will if they are ready. We haven't got an over-abundance knocking on the door but if I believe somebody can come in and do a better job, then I won't hesitate to give them the opportunity, regardless of their age.
"But we've still got ten games left, nine of them against sides above us, and I don't want to go out and make changes for change sake."
The likes of Luke O'Brien, David Brown and Luke Medley will all be hoping for a look-in before May.
But McCall admits it could be easier to introduce the rookies on the road, where the pressure on them is less intense than at Valley Parade.
"It might be a sink or swim situation at some point with the young lads but, having lost four out of five at home, I'm not sure if that's the best place," he said.
"With the number of fans we get turning up, there is a bit of pressure to perform at home and you have to decide if it's fair to throw kids into that at this present time."

A lot of other teams in this division seem to have their fair share of "kids" in their side, and they don't seem to have any problems performing when they come to Valley Parade. Get them in, they can't do any worse than the present bunch.

if you don't already, try going to a city away game as supporters really get behind the team. at home, sadly if a youngster made a mistake there would be groans, you only have to look at the treatment players like colbeck and penford have endured.
anyway, fans moaning kids should be in are getting their wish - so be happy (and patient)

I thought Taylforth played well against Tranmere in the cup when he came on then he hasn't had a sniff since. I think any changes from the shambles that was Saturdays performance have to be welcomed. Lets just get a couple more p[oints in the bag , then let the youngsters loose - they can't do much worse than the current squad of players we have. Big changes in the summer required ! CTID

I agree with the point of view JM about the away games and giving the kids a go. Now it is a case of patience, they may feel a bit overwhelmed and may not perform to the best of their ability.
Luke O'Brien I was not impressed one little bit at all against Tranmere, constantly breaking from position and spent most of the time wondering where he should be. Instead of heckling the lad, realising it was a big occasion for him, I just cheered the lads on, the first half was very enjoyable, the 2nd, well that was the opposite.
What he do have to do is have patience like you said JM, not just for bringing the youngsters in, but needing a few games to find their feet a bit, basically nurture them into first team football. Colbeck is a prime example of this, he had chances, left to one side for a bit, brought in, left out again and look at him now, one of the integral members of the squad.

Negative Rubbish imo!!
Why should i blow near on £100 to go to take me & the family away games when 'we cant wait for the season to end'?
It should be all about having a go at the end of the year, we have 2 games in hand for gods sake - win them and we are only 4 points off the last play-off place with 24 points to play for!!
Its Toddish' & i dont like it!!
We have ML moaning about the lack of season ticket sales & the main voice of the club has declared the season over & is looking for 2 wins for safety.
Stop being so lame McCall and get some guts - you should be demanding a performance on Saturday after the Mansfield abortion and then looking to build on that!!! ;(

I know it is not good to hear the "mood" from VP about needing 1 more point in half a dozen games or so to achieve safety. BUT in reality I am sure McCall will be going into every game wanting the team to win irrespective which players make it into the starting XI.
It is about time though we were not given such defeatest comments from the club. I have moaned about it in previous seasons. Last year was a classic example from Wethers, we got too complacent and got relegated.
I don't know why we can not just be told of the intentions when the team goes out, ok we may need to hit that "magical" 50 for morale, but in reality, come on, we DO NOT need it to stave off relegation.
There really are not enough games to go for us to get into the play off places and for the teams above us to drop enough points, but I would like Stuart to say we'll give it a go, if only to put pressure on the clubs battling for that 7th spot. Now that would be an interview I would like to read.
We haven't got an over-abundance knocking on the door
In part I do agree, but I amongst others would like to see some of the ones out on loan to brought back and given a go, and lets see if they take their chance.
Penford has blown it for me and should be released, as for the rest...
Ainge
O'Brien
Medley
Bentham
Taylforth
Brown (sub only with his size and pace)
These players I would definitely try and get games in for the first team so there are enough pushing the first teamers. I would sooner see us lose but give it a go and plan for next season with these youngsters as opposed to playing individuals like Evans that will not be here in a couple of months time. If they can not make the grade at least we will know for next season, if they do a half decent job that will make things easier for Stuart with his budget planning his squad for next season knowing we have some cover in certain areas.

Stuart, Stuart, Stuart...
All players at some stage have had there chance to prove there worth. If they are not in your plans for next season then leave them in the reserves to rot.
Lets pick from the people that have possibly done enough to be here next year, you should be able to scrape a five-a-side team together to enter at Richard Dunns lol..
On a serious note why persist with them now? Bring back the people on loan that maybe in your plans for next term.
Lets assume pre-season has started and start gelling the players that are going to be sticking around?

supportive of JM/SKIPTON & ALI BABA i should also state my theory that 4-5 players in the city shirt are still apprehensive about performing at vp. yet appear to be slightly more relaxed when away. its called mind games one knows that a thousand supportive voices outweighs severel thousand negatives. now im not making excuses for said players but if 12/13 thousand fans cannot lift them then they are in the wrong job. so bring the kids in home or away and anyone who tries should be encouraged

Totally agree with this post. Win the next two games against a decent opposition and were back in the fight. We win them and what would be the point in shuffling the pack around, he needs to make some changes but no a total re-vamp.

City are no better or worse than the majority of the teams in the league-ok so we are **** at the moment but a few points or good performances in the next month or so and we could look alot better.
What we are still failing to grasp is the opportunity to really make a difference in Bradford itself and swell the crowds (directors have suddenly woke up with the thought of money being mentioned). get some British/Bradford asian lads in/Indian, Pakistani etc-no they don't all choose cricket instead of football but the racist practices that are inerrant in our sysytems pushes them that way, build youth teams around these lads, encourage schools and clubs to nominate players directly, appoint a Black coach/trainer/scout to find and nurture these lads and before you no it we have a bigger squad to select from, more crowds and money on the turnstiles!!
OK so we might need to invest in the infrastructure (directors ring wobbling here no doubt)
But what a chance to build a better Bradford City, a chance to blend and share cutures and a way to make Bradford a club for Bradford people, watched by Bradford people and we might just win something?

I thought Stu wanted to see which of the current first team squad were worth keeping. How's he going to do that if he plays the youngsters in the run in ? As for BCFC being the solution to the cultural divide in the city..... ???

I cannot wait for the end of the season to come but if we play well against the teams above us we may be in with a shout but we still need one more point for survival--not my words but those of a manager who is becominmg as inspirational as a wet haddock on a Friday afternoon!
He has players who admit to complacency yet is talking about a rotational system to see how the players go and to give them a chance but most will not be here next season by his own admission: HE ALREADY KNOWS WHO WILL NOT BE AT cITY NEXT SEASON AND TEH PLAYERS KNOW IT AS WELL.-- Most of teh current squad are free agents no and my bet is that most have already got something lined up for next season hence their unwillingness to raise their games now.
And then this:
With the number of fans we get turning up, there is a bit of pressure to perform at home and you have to decide if it's fair to throw kids into that at this present time."
answer if you do not give them a chance you will never know--
so my suggestion for a rotation this week is parc!! Rotate those letters all week end.
A manager who has found himself completely out of his depth and one who, I believe, has already lost the dressing room!!

Its Toddish' & i dont like it!!
We have ML moaning about the lack of season ticket sales & the main voice of the club has declared the season over & is looking for 2 wins for safety.
Stop being so lame McCall and get some guts - you should be demanding a performance on Saturday after the Mansfield abortion and then looking to build on that!!! ;(
A fair few points I am finding hard to disagree with. And one of the hardest things to take is the fact that Rovrum going into admin has always been on the cards,so to catch and overtake them would have been a fair bit easier, but with certain persons within the club already giving up on a play-off place it has made a mockery out of even turning up for any matches in 2008. No football player or manager should ever go out to give less than 100% and want to win every match, I don't feel we have that mentality just now, but I do think that once the deadwood is cleared we have a far better chance next season, I just hope that Stu realises that every single fan who turns up expects to see his sides giving as much as he did when playing, otherwise they will just not like it and start to turn on him and the team yet again. WE MUST GET FIT HUNGRY FIGHTERS IN FOR NEXT YEAR>

i agree in giving youth it's chance, and when we are,as i think now out of the fear of relegation, blood a couple of the younger lads, with the promise of more action,if and when they prove their worth.in my experience, younger lads are usualy full of enthusiasem and want to prove themselves, but to be honest all players should be like that, especaily local lads.when i started suporting city in 1969,me and my mates who still go to games now, would have sold our vital organs to wear the claret and amber and play for the paraders as we were known then.i hpoe and pray we will be knocking on the promotion door next searon.
But he may hold fire until City are past the 50-point barrier which is usually seen as the safety mark against relegation.
Funny about the attitude that is coming from the club 1 place below us and played 2 more games. Iffy Onoura is still aiming for the play offs while we have 2 games in hand, a place above them and we are seeking 1 more point in 9 games to secure safety from relegation.......

Look around, how many asian players do you see in the football league in general? Not many. Why play the race card? Haven't we got enough problems at City without having to pour money and resources into scouting a community which has produced little in the way of professional football talent.
Until India and Pakistan start excelling at football then there will probably be no improvement in the numbers of asian players.

As some are aware I coach youth football, we have 4 lads from South East Asia, we progress to U17s next season and only one of them is being allowed to continue with us due to parents insisting on more time spent studying and in one case helping with the family business. It is improving and will eventually get to the point where this subject doesn't even get raised, but don't point all the fingers at clubs and institutions, the families of budding sportsmen and women are mainly the reason for so many not continuing with sport in any capacity after age 14/15/16. But as I say it is improving, at one point we wouldn't have had 4 U16s palyers from that background and certainly wouldn't be re-signing one for next year. Someone, somewhere will eventually have the right format to increase the amount of children from various races carrying on with sport after school days are over, until that time the levels will remain pretty static.

It's so depressing to come on here and read so called fans slagging off and abusing stuart. You might be of the view he's not doing a good job and, while I disagree, I can accept that. However all he is getting is mindless abuse and name calling for no reason, I honestly don't know why he bothers talking to the T&A if all people can do is line up to ridicule him. There seems to be a few people on here who are basing their judgement of if Stuart is up to the job on media quotes, sorry but that can't be right. I'm sick of writing about the bigger picture and how he deserves a chance to revamp the squad, people can't see beyond their pathetic need to slag him off
What kind of fans are you? What other club in the country would slag off their supposed 'all time biggest hero' when he's had so little time in the job? A couple of years ago I wrote an article saying I didn’t want Stuart to come to City because all that will happen is his standing will go down by pathetic moaners who just look for the flimsiest excuse to stick the boot in, sadly it's been proved right. Whats worse is remembering how depserate everyone was for him to be out manager this time last year
All for the last two weeks it's been "play the kids, they will have passion, etc" now Stuart says he will do this and still you moan. What more do you want? Tomorrow he announces he's signed Ronaldo on loan and people would still moan.
Why can’t we use these bulletin boards for sensible comment and debate, instead of pathetic moaning and abusing of a club hero?

Yet another clueless, pathetic, negative interview with Stuart!
The reason we are in this mess is because of your rotation policy! Its been an all season rotation policy because you have no idea who to play FFS! You have no idea what your best team is and this has led to fans not knowing either as we never see a settled team.
The abuse the players have been getting from 'fans' is a disgrace. Just because no one dare say anything against the manager, the players get all the crap instead. The buck stops with the manager.
Stuart I still love you ;) and hope you get it right but you need to start listening to someone with some sense i.e me xx

just because you are an ex player and a legend does not make you a manager let alone a good manager
Bobby Moore was arguable one of England's best players--as a a manager:totally useless.!
sorry SM BUT

Thankfully, I was away, so missed the Mansfield game.
I understand Stuart's dilemma - it's irrelevant who he picks because few of them are good enough.
There are only about six worth retaining, with only three good enough to form the nucleus for next season. It's nigh on impossible to be successful trying to integrate eight newcomers, with immedaite effect. That means next season is likely to be as difficult as this.
I read a fan's letter in T & A tonight suggesting Stuart brings Terry Dolan in and I'd second that. If there's going to be a casualty then, sadly, it's going to be Wayne.
