The Oxenhope Straw Race next Sunday is so popular that last year the organisers had to turn some teams away. The race has gone from strength to strength, raising more than £300,000 for charity through teams in fancy dress carrying bales of straw, collecting sponsorship as they race from one pub to the next.

Skipton will be celebrating its roots next Sunday with a day of sheep-related festivities from 10am until 4pm. With live theatre, rare breeds of sheep, a shearing demonstration, craft demonstrations and local produce at the Farmer’s Market, this will definitely be a fun-filled day.

From children’s rides and stalls to dodgems and waltzers, Finnie’s Funfair, in Lister Park from next Friday to July 10, will have something for all the family to enjoy.

On Saturday, Wrose Carnival parade sets off from the junction of Kings Road and Wrose Road at 11.45pm, arriving on the recreation ground at around noon. There will be some new features this year, including players from Bradford Bulls, Castleford Tigers and Huddersfield Giants, who will be on hand for you to meet.

Oakworth Gala will be held in the Oakworth School field next Saturday after the procession of floats at 2pm, from Windsor Road. As well as the usual stalls and entertainment, there will be children’s racing and the annual village run.

Also next Saturday, Keighley Town Gala procession will be following a new route from Goulbourne Street, East Parade down to Victoria Park with events and activities taking place throughout the day, while Denholme Gala will be in Foster Park.

Grease is on at the Alhambra in Bradford until July 2.
