As all dedicated film buffs will know, The Bradford International Film Festival kicks off on Thursday at the National Media Museum. The festival will showcases a multitude of cinematic experiences, including premieres, previews and old favourites. Special guests visiting Bradford during the 11-day event include Monty Python legend Terry Gilliam and actress Claire Bloom. Visit nationalmediamuseum.org.uk.

From today, Cartwright Hall Art Gallery plays host to some of the Bradford district’s best artistic talent. The Bradford Open 2011 is an unrivalled showcase for artists and craftspeople who live or work in the Bradford District, whose work has been selected by a prestigious panel. So support local creativity – and maybe even snap up a bargain by the next David Hockney – at the exhibition, which runs until Sunday, June 5.

It’s still not too late to sign up to take part in the Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k, which takes place next Sunday. The race begins and ends in Centenary Square, with the starter’s whistle being blown at 9am. Runners must be aged 15 or over to join the race of more than 1,000 participants – and will receive a free T-shirt when you cross the finish line. Take a trip back to the Sixties and relive the sights and sounds of the Beatles when the Bootleg Beatles return to St George’s Hall with their spectacular stage production, featuring all the classic hits. Using film footage from the period, and with a little help from a brass and string ensemble, the show traces the history of the Fab Four. It’s not the Beatles, but you may have trouble believing it. The Bootleg Beatles are on at St George’s Hall on Friday.
