With seven floors of galleries to explore, a spectacular five-storey-high IMAX screen, two cinemas and a packed programme of events, there’s something for everyone at the National Media Museum. Younger members of the family will enjoy watching The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader (3D), while older children would probably prefer Tron: Legacy IMAX 3D.

Why not get out and explore some of the beautiful places in West Yorkshire? There are more than 100 acres of gardens at Harewood House near Leeds, with plants from all over the world. Children will enjoy the excitement and thrills of the adventure playground, with its slides, swings and climbing frames – all with the cafe, picnic areas, ice cream kiosk and toilets close by. The grounds at Harewood are ideal for watching wild birds attracted by the variety of different habitats, or you can enjoy the famous Bird Garden, home to more than 90 species, including penguins, owls, flamingos and parrots.

From next Saturday, you can experience the magic of outdoor ice skating at Leeds’s coolest wintertime attraction. It’s great fun and accessible for all ages and abilities with more than 1,200sqm of real ice, a nursery rink and ‘Penguin’ skating aids for budding skaters. You can find Ice Cube – the UK’s largest temporary ice skating rink – in Millennium Square, right in the heart of the city.

Get your dancing shoes on and head over to Ilkley next Thursday, where the Kings Hall & Winter Gardens is hosting a tea dance, which starts at 1.45pm – a very enjoyable way of working off a few Christmas calories.
