The National Media Museum is calling on gamers to help break a world record.

Visitors to the museum are invited to bring along their Nintendo DS on Wednesday, July 28 for the Guinness World Record attempt.

The idea is to try and break the world record for the largest number of people playing DS games in the same space.

The event is part of a day of family activities, starting at 3pm, which includes face-painting, a bouncy castle and interactive displays.

Tom Woolley, curator of new media, said: “I’m looking forward to seeing so many people come together to play Nintendo DS – I’m sure we can set a new world record!

“Videogaming is a growing area for the museum with our new games lounge, and events like this reinforce our commitment to viewing games as a culturally-valuable, sociable and fun activity.”

To take part in the Nintendo DS World Record attempt, and help beat the current record of 586 people, players can register throughout the afternoon until 6pm on the day itself, ready for the event that will start at 6:30pm. The museum will be open until 8pm and there will be a Street Fighter 2 arcade battle in the games lounge from 7pm, with a Nintendo DS as the prize.
