SCHOOLS will soon be out for the half term holiday.

While some may be heading off to the airport to board a plane destined for sunnier climes, for many the October break tends to be a staycation.

There are plenty of activities, family fun and things to do to keep children entertained but to give you some inspiration, we've compiled a round-up of events happening closer to home.

From craft workshops, providing rainy day creations, to cooking and telling tales there is certainly something to suit everyone.

During the half-term holiday there will be plenty of things to do at libraries around Bradford and district as the city's Family Learning Festival gets underway.

'Aliens Love Underpants' the show featuring story-telling and puppets runs from 10 until 11am on Tuesday October 24.

Little Tykes fans can look forward a special themed event at Diggerland Yorkshire. Fun sessions include dirt diggers and dump trucks as well as sand and water tables. The production features a host of familiar characters from the BAFTA-award winning show who are embarking on a brand new adventure, Sarah & Duck's Big Top Birthday. Kids can expand their culinary skills in the Awesome Autumnal half-term cooking workshops run by Stir Krazy Kids.

The cooking and baking workshop is aimed at the five to 12s and takes place on Thursday October 26 at Ilkley Grammar School, Cowpasture Road, Ilkley.

Under fives can become 'Little Explorers' in a series of fun activities being hosted by the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Bretton, near Wakefield.

Within the 500 acre internationally renowned centre for modern and contemporary sculpture currently commemorating its 40th anniversary this year, young visitors can join in a free woodland adventure trail while spending time in the fresh air as they play and create in the Hidden Forest. Savour the fresh air and the scenery in the Welly Walk. Join this free woodland adventure trail from the Stepping Stones to the Cavendish Pavilion at Bolton Abbey near Skipton.

Discover the wildlife around Harlow Carr Gardens in an Autumn Sculpture Trail. Walk among the beautiful creations depicting the garden's inhabitants, such as birds, bees, herons and hedgehogs, and created by Yorkshire artists during this special event which runs until October 31.
