Ironically, Bingley Little Theatre’s production of Pack of Lies is based on a true story – and what an intriguing tale it is.
Set in 1960 in a London suburb, Hugh Whitemore’s play explores how a friendship between two couples, the Krogers and the Jacksons, is compromised when an MI5 agent turns up.
All the action took place on a superb split set, showing the kitchen and living room of the Jacksons’ home. Cleverly, cast members took it in turns to step into narrate more of the story.
The eight-strong cast put in magnificent performances. Nicola Brook was excellent as Barbara Jackson, whose life is wrecked when she discovers her best friend and neighbour, Helen Kroger, (Jill Whitehouse) is a suspected spy for the Russians.
It was a brilliant BLT debut for young Sophie Mullen who played the Jackson’s typical teenage daughter, Julie.
Directed by Jacquie Howard, Pack of Lies is a must see.
Runs until Saturday.
