Yeadon Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society’s production of Sweet Charity reunites Joanna Clark in the title role and David Kirk, who is directing his 15th production for the society.
The pair last worked together in 1991 on the musical The Rink, staged by the Barnstormers Theatre Company at Guiseley. David was the youth company’s founder and a young Joanna Booth, as she was then, played lead roles in several shows before going on to become a professional actress, appearing in the West End.
Joanna is thrilled to be in Sweet Charity. “It’s a fabulous show. There are lots of famous songs such as Big Spender, If My Friends Could See Me Now and I’m A Brass Band,” she says. “The story is lighthearted and comical, it’s a great night out.
“It’s smashing to be back with David again. It’s as if nothing has changed – I’d forgotten what a slave driver, sorry, perfectionist he is! Seriously though, Yeadon’s standards are as high as any professional company and the supporting cast of principals is second to none.”
Other roles are played by Paul Chewins, Katrina Wood and Samantha Ball, all of whom have a wealth of experience on the amateur stage at theatres in Bradford and surrounding areas, and are regular performers for YAODS.
* Sweet Charity runs at Yeadon Town Hall from March 13 to 17 at 7.15pm. For tickets, ring 07570 610989.
