When your leading lady is actually a man, how on earth do you find glittering stilettos in a size 10?
That was the problem facing Yeadon Amateur Operatic Society’s costume director Sandra Landells, who is putting together a glamorous wardrobe for a forthcoming production of La Cage Aux Folles.
Enter stage right Joan Walsh, owner of Tip Toes shoe shop at White Cross, Guiseley. Joan travels extensively to buy collections for her shop and has advised the society on where to source the shoes it needs for leading lady/man Andrew Walton, who plays Albin/Zaza, and the glamorous ‘Cagelles’.
La Cage Aux Folles, with a lively score featuring international hit I Am What I Am, is a poignant romantic comedy.
The show was made into non-musical film The Birdcage starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane.
La Cage Aux Folles runs at Yeadon from March 12 to 16. For tickets ring 075 706 10989.
