Keighley Amateurs are kicking off their centenary year with a fun-filled family show.

With bumbling policemen, a larger-than-life genie, toe-tapping song-and-dance numbers and more slapstick than you can shake a stick at, Aladdin And His Wonderful Lamp will be tickling audiences’ ribs.

“A huge part of the society’s success has been the annual pantomime performed for over 40 years,” says society spokesman David Brett.

“The shows are updated each year but stick to the traditional pantomime structure, with the emphasis on comedy and family fun.

“To help mark our centenary we’re working hard to make Aladdin a spectacle of colour. There’ll be lots of familiar music ranging from Andrew Lloyd Webber to One Direction.

“‘Come to the supermarket in old Peking’ cry the townsfolk as we whisk you off to the land of make believe. Join Widow Twankey and her idiot son Wishee Washee as they begin an adventure alongside Aladdin. Can Aladdin marry his beloved Princess So-Shy? Is there really a magical genie? And does Widow Twankey really get her wish to be a Las Vegas showgirl?

“Many Keighley Amateurs favourites are back, including the spectacular principal boy/girl team from Robinson Crusoe, Fiona Spencer as Aladdin and Brogan Hollindrake as Princess So-Shy. Steven Clark is Widow Twankey and Wishee Washee is played by our own regular funny man, Tim Steere. Callum Stevens explodes onto the stage as the Genie of the Lamp, and the Slave of the Ring is played by Carolyn Ellis. No panto is complete without a baddie and Aladdin has the evil Abanazer, played by Howard Clements.”

Aladdin runs at Keighley’s Victoria Hall on January 26 and Sun 27, 30 and 31, February 1 and 2. For tickets ring 0845 6252 550 or visit the website at keighleyamateurs.com.
