KEIGHLEY Playhouse’s season finalé is “laugh-a-minute comedy” You Say Tomatoes.

It’s a rainy day in Sussex and two American tourists, whose car has broken down, find themselves stranded outside the cottage of Giles St James and Fred Craddock, two quintessential English eccentrics.

Libby Daniels, a New York film director hopes to revive her fading career, with the help of her friend and assistant, Daisy, by obtaining the film rights to English writer Giles St James’ mystery novels. But after managing to track him down, she discovers that the reclusive, misogynistic author loathes Americans just as much as she dislikes the British. Much to Giles’ dismay, Fred offers overnight accommodation while their car is repaired.

When she works her charms on divorced Giles, Libby starts to sway the publicity-shy writer into her way of thinking. Then Daisy causes a catastrophic misunderstanding, leading the girls to travel back to New York, empty handed.

Giles and Fred are in hot pursuit, but will the transatlantic culture clash prove too much for the foursome to handle?

Hannah Williams makes her directing debut with Keighley Playhouse, under the mentorship of Kevin Moore. “You Say Tomatoes not only explores the differences between British and American attitudes, manners and cultures, it also dishes out much needed hilarity,” says the team.

You Say Tomatoes runs from June 11-16. Call 07599 890769.
