BRADFORD Theatres continues its run of smash hit musicals in 2017, with Sister Act, Beautiful and The Full Monty among the shows lighting up the new season.

This year the Alhambra has played host to big shows including Billy Elliot, Wicked and Mary Poppins, which is at the theatre until December 10.

And next year the sparkle continues, with Alexandra Burke starring in Sister Act. Other shows include Sunny Afternoon, telling the story of The Kinks, with hits like You Really Got Me, Waterloo Sunset and All Day and All of the Night, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, starring Joe McElderry and a new stage adaptation of Meera Syal’s coming-of-age novel Anita and Me also hits the Alhambra stage.

Adam Renton, General Manager Bradford Theatres said: “As this year draws to a close, we’re looking ahead to exciting times in 2017, with a diverse, vibrant selection of shows - opera, musicals, dance, drama and don’t forget our panto, Peter Pan, runs until the end of January 2017.”

There are laughs a-plenty with comics Omid Djalili, Miles Jupp, Rob Beckett, John Shuttleworth and Ruby Wax, presenting her new shoe Frazzled: A Guide to Mindfulness. Comedy lovers should also make their way to the refreshed Studio where Patrick Monahan, Tom Allen and Suzi Ruffell all making appearances. The Alhambra’s 1914 Restaurant continues its Comedy Dinner Shows, featuring Del and Rodney (Only Fools and Horses) and Edmund and Queenie (Blackadder).

Opera and ballet are well covered next season, with Aida and La Boheme by acclaimed producer Ellen Kent and The Red Shoes, the new show from Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures. The magical adaptation of the classic Powell and Pressburger film is described as "an intoxicating drama where life imitates art with fateful consequences; that will dazzle your senses and break your heart."

The nation’s favourite ballroom couple, Anton Du Beke and Erin Boag, waltz into the Alhambra with their show Swing Time, and Michael Flatley brings his Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games to town.

Maureen Nolan and former EastEnders stars Cheryl Fergison heads up the cast of Menopause The Musical, Ray Quinn, Ruth Madoc and Roxanne Pallette star in The Wedding Singer, and for sports fans there’s An Evening With Boycott and Aggers.

For younger theatre-goers, the shows include Going on a Bear Hunt, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Dick and Dom Live and a ‘Pub Quiz for Kids’ with comic Patrick Monahan.
