BRADFORD'S Alhambra Theatre is to hold a special 'Relaxed Performance' of its panto this year, for audience members who have a learning disability.

The performance of Peter Pan, on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 7.15pm, is aimed at audiences who would benefit from a more relaxed theatre environment, including people who are on the autistic spectrum or who have sensory and communication discord or a learning disability.

Michael Harrison, Managing Director of Qdos Pantomimes and executive producer of Peter Pan said: “We are delighted to be working alongside our Alhambra Theatre colleagues in presenting another relaxed performance. Together with Peter Pan’s creative team we make some adjustments to the show, including light and sound levels, removing loud noises, and reviewing the script to ensure it’s a great and memorable experience for the relaxed performance audience.”

Adam Renton, General Manager Bradford Theatres, added: “Following the success of last year’s first ever Relaxed Performance at the Alhambra Theatre, having seen parents so comfortable at a theatre performance watching their children enjoying the show, it was without hesitation that we decided to present one again this year during our pantomime season.

"Listening to feedback from our customers, families and support organisations in the region, we decided to offer the Relaxed Performance at an evening show this year. We hope that even more people will be able to join us for this specially tailored performance and that the inclusive welcome and relaxed atmosphere will give everyone the chance to come and experience pantomime.”

Everyone booking for the Relaxed Performance will be sent a visual story in advance to help familiarise them with the plot, characters and setting before they arrive at the theatre. The Relaxed Performance will also include Sign Language Interpretation.

Adam Renton, General Manager Bradford Theatres continued: “As well as small changes to the show, we will also be taking a more relaxed approach to noise in the auditorium and will provide a designated chill-out area outside the auditorium for people to use if being in the auditorium becomes overwhelming for them.”

Peter Pan, which runs from December 17 to January 29, sees the return of Alhambra panto stalwart Billy Pearce, who will board the Jolly Roger and heads to Neverland, accompanied by actor, singer and presenter Darren Day, former Emmerdale actress Charlie Hardwick and pop and West End theatre star Jon Lee.

The swashbuckling show, staged by Qdos Entertainment, will feature an exciting 3D sequence, taking audiences "deep into the ocean" on a magical underwater adventure. Other special effects include the "biggest crocodile in panto land".

To make the Relaxed Performance as accessible as possible the theatre is offering tickets for this Relaxed Performance for a reduced rate of £13.

Tickets are available on 01274 432000 or via the Group Sales Team on 01274 437788, who can advise the best way to accommodate larger groups.
