CLECKHEATON Youth Theatre is putting on its first full-scale musical this weekend - and Grease is the word.

Since forming last December, the group has presented three sell-out musical showcase performances.

With 51 members, Cleckheaton Youth Theatre helps children between the ages of eight and 16 develop their skills in singing, acting and dancing, and gain experience on stage performing musical theatre productions.

The sessions and rehearsals are led by artistic directors Jessica Ward and Richard Shingleton who both have wide ranging experience in performing arts. Jess studied music and maths at the University of Leeds before becoming a freelance musician. She is musical director for several musical theatre and opera companies in the region and is conductor and leader of Oakenshaw Community Choir. Richard is currently studying drama at the University of Huddersfield, specialising in directing and performance. He is a trained dancer, has a LAMDA Bronze award for performance and performs for various theatre and music groups around West Yorkshire.

Grease, the original musical on which the hit movie was based, follows the antics of Danny and Sandy and their pals for one last year at Rydell High.

* The show runs tomorrow and Sunday, and there are still tickets left.
