Bingley Little Theatre’s First World War drama Journey’s End is a power house production directed by Sandra Williams, aided by a terrific set designed by Robin Green.
Sitting in the audience, you were drawn into the trenches and felt part of the action while bombs were dropping around you, thanks to new sound and lighting equipment, costing more than £100,000.
After a slow start, mainly due to establishing plot and characters, there were some outstanding performances in this RC Sherriff play which deals with the tragedy and horror of human conflict in wartime. There is a mixture of humour, introspection and distraction.
Mike Smith impressed as old whiskey soak Captain Stanhope, who had moments of compassion. There was an understated moment between Osborne (Ian Wilkinson) and Raleigh (Jamie Rogers) and some nice cameos from Mark Rundle, Julian Freeman, Garth Rookes and Jeff Peacock.
A special mention too for David Thomas who stepped into the part of Captain Hardy at the last minute.
Watch out for a special line-up at the end of the performance.
Runs until Saturday.
