There are few musicians who can keep a concert hall full of people enraptured for almost two hours when armed only with a guitar, harmonica and a piano.
But that’s exactly what Bryan Adams did on the opening night of the UK leg of his ‘Bare Bones’ tour in Bradford.
Global superstar he may be, but Adams’ down-to-earth charm was clear as he strode across the stage, performing as casually as if in his front room, to a sold-out St George’s Hall.
His laid-back attitude continued throughout the evening but the crowd was anything but – whooping, cheering and swaying as Adams rattled-off hit after hit after hit.
With over 65 million record sales under his belt, the set included many fan favourites – Run to You, Everything I Do, Heaven, and Summer of ’69 to name a few – but these were stripped right to the bone, performed acoustically, demonstrating both the strength of Adams’ song-writing and the captivating power of his husky voice.
It’s not often names as big as Bryan Adams grace the boards at St George’s Hall, but here’s hoping more star acts will follow.
