It's three cheers for the live wires

Three is often said to be the magic number, but no longer is this the case after seeing Redwire’s centurion gig which, without question, was arguably their most energetic, polished and cohesive set to date.

The gig at the Love Apple Cafe in Bradford was definitely one to be remembered – it wasn’t called the Redwire Party for nothing! These talented young musicians certainly don’t do things by halves, and such was the strength of their arrangement, the energy they exuded from their electric stage presence and the impact they had on the audience, it almost felt like I was seeing a major headliner at a festival.

Speaking after the gig frontman Tom Nowakowski said: “Fantastic! What an experience! There certainly was a party atmosphere about the place and we’re really pleased the audience seemed to enjoy it. We just love entertaining people with our music.”

The place was packed to the rafters and the support the band attracts seems to be increasing with every gig they do. It’s hardly surprising after you hear the sheer excellence of their strong indie-post-punk tunes.

Catchy riffs and sound guitar work, impassioned and watertight drumming right through to the power and vigour of the frontman’s voice, are all reasons enough to realise that Bradford’s music scene is well and truly alive.

This band write with a maturity and energy that deserves to be applauded. With their latest track Dance With Me right up to Fade Away – a true anthem among their army of fans – it’s safe to say that these guys have a huge talent.

What continues to impress me about Redwire is their work ethic, the pride they speak of being Bradford lads, and the appreciation for their support. Tom said: “This special gig was for the people of Bradford for their continued support. It really does humble us. We’re not complacent and we’re looking upon 2009 as an opportunity to become even more creative.”

The band will be in the studio over the next few months producing new material which, if their current music is anything to go by, will leave their fans drooling at the prospect.

The sound of Redwire is music at its most original, energetic and mature. If you get chance, make sure you see this band – and take some friends with you as well!

Redwire will be at The Cockpit, Leeds, on January 30, and Tokyo’s, Bradford, on February 13. For more about the band visit myspace.com/ redwireofficial
