YOUNG Bradford rock band As Sirens Fall has won the prestigious Soundwaves Music Competition.

The band beat more than 400 other bands in the final which took place earlier this month at Leeds O2 Academy. Prizes include recording and photo shoots.

The competition is renowned for showcasing some of the best local and upcoming talent on the Northern music scene, and judges were particularly impressed with the stage presence, overall "concrete performance" of As Sirens Fall.

Vocalist Mikey Lord said: "As well as winning over the judges, we secured the highest count of public text votes.

"We're extremely excited about the opportunities winning this competition will bring, and we're overjoyed to have played the Leeds O2 Academy, a longstanding dream of all the band. We are looking forward to a very busy and exciting 2016."

Sirens Fall - made up of Mikey, bassist Jason Doveston, guitarists Adam Doveston and Ben Aldham and drummer Robbie Hutchinson - formed in late 2014 and released their first single, From Across The Waves, in spring last year. They are currently preparing to record their debut EP with rock producer Romesh Dodangoda at Longwave Studios.

* As Sirens Fall are appearing at the Eat You Alive Festival on January 29 and at the Brudenell Social Club, Leeds, on February 2.
