INNOVATIVE folk duo Waiting for Wednesday are headlining a special West Yorkshire music event next month in aid of political reform.

The Bradford pair, who fuse folk and rock, are getting noticed all over the country thanks to their combination of harmonies and rasping voices.

And they will bring all that and plenty of attitude to the Belgrave club in Leeds when they play the second of two AboveBeyond nights on Tuesday, March 31st, said event organiser Mark Flanagan.

"We have been amazed at the response and all the bands are really behind what we are trying to do.

"I also think it says a lot about the music scene in West Yorkshire that there are so many superb bands out there and we are also so lucky in this area to have some fantastic venues for them to play in.

"The Belgrave, at the bottom of Merrion Street, is relatively new but it has already established itself as one of the best gigging venues in the county. I am certain it has helped encourage this brilliant growth in new acts and I think West Yorkshire is set to become a centre for musical excellence once again."

A total of nine of the best up-and-coming bands in West Yorkshire are coming together to play in the benefit gigs. The money from raised will go towards supporting the Above & Beyond movement, which is attempting to promote issues which it believes will ultimately help make society more sustainable in the long term.

Anna Watkins, of Waiting for Wednesday said: "This is going to be a great event and it is for a very special cause. We all really need to take a long, hard look at the way society is heading and it is great we can play a small part in helping with that process."

Above & Beyond intends putting up candidates in the 2015 UK general election on May 7, demanding just one hugely critical policy change – that the None Of The Above option is available on all UK ballot papers.

The movement's website states: "This is clearly not a one-stop solution to the huge issues we face but everyone at the Above and Beyond Party believe it is a critical first step to highlighting the root cause of our long-term problems – the political system.

"We in the Above and Beyond Party do not believe our government exists to help us or make our lives better. We believe it currently exists to prevent any progressive change and has no intention of facing up to huge task of creating a system which will provide a sustainable way of life for all of us in the long term."

Mark Flanagan said the party was wholly independent of other groups and aimed to field ten prospective parliamentary candidates including one in Leeds North West.

The two-day concert opens on March 30th with Wilsden/Keighley act Indianic headlining. The alternative rockers will bring some extraordinary energy to the event and they have quickly made their mark on the local scene having formed just over three years ago. Waiting for Wednesday will round off events 24 hours later.

"Anyone who comes to one of the Above and Beyond nights will see what fantastic talent is about to break through," Mark Flanagan added.

Tickets cost just £5.50 and are available to buy online at www.voteaboveandbeyond.org/abovebeyond-gigs.html. Tickets will not be sold on the night.
