Re-born from rock ‘n’ roll roots and formed originally for a one-off St Patrick’s Day gig, Reel Jiggy takes no prisoners on the dance floor.

This five-piece up-tempo band hailing from around Bradford is taking festivals by storm, building up a loyal fan base and a fast and furious reputation for music that makes you move.

A dental technician, an inventor whose got an entry in Wikipedia and an former record shop owner who fled the recession to France – and then came back because he missed the music too much – are just some of this energetic folk who make up an ever-evolving sound. For more go to reel-jiggy.com.

“We don't do sedate gigs, we can tone it down but more often we’re turning it up!” says Liz Plowman who took up the violin again after dislocating her jaw and having to take a 15-year break.

This weekend she will be wearing a wedding gown she designed herself so she can be glam and still gig in comfort with the rest of her band at the after-ceremony knees up.

Her first gig as a newly-wed ‘Mrs’ will be at Calverley Folk Day on Saturday, June 8, at The New Inn, Carr Road, from about 4.30pm.

Pubs and clubs are welcoming musicians and singers on the free-for-all day for informal sessions and singarounds from 1pm.
