Champions of brass in concert
Brighouse and Rastrick Band will be showing just why they were recently awarded the title of 2010 Yorkshire Champions when they perform at a concert this weekend.
The internationally-renowned brass band won the prestigious title at the Yorkshire Brass Band Championships held at St George’s Hall last week.
The band’s principal euphonium player Steve Walsh also won the Instrumentalist Award for outstanding musicianship.
In October, the band will represent Yorkshire at the Royal Albert Hall at the national finals, regarded as the biggest event on the brass band calendar.
Brighouse and Rastrick Band was conducted by Professor David King, who travels from his home in Australia to conduct on the contest stage.
Professor King is acknowledged as one of the world’s leading conductors and was musical director of the Yorkshire Building Society Band.
Brighouse and Rastrick Band president Paul Beaumont said: “This was Professor King’s first Yorkshire regional contest at the helm and this momentous victory bides well for the upcoming contest season.
“Every player gave their all on the contest stage and has done over the last ten weeks during which the band has been preparing for the contest. I am very proud of their achievements, but it is no more than they deserve; they are a massively talented team.”
Brighouse and Rastrick Band will be performing at Huddersfield Town Hall on Saturday, sharing the stage with the Enfield Citadel Band. For more details, visit brighouseandrastrickband.com
