School choirs from across the district will have chance to showcase their vocal talents at BD1 LiVE Goes Choral in the new year.

Bradford Theatres’ second annual schools choir competition will see schools performing two songs of their choice for a panel of professional judges, who will then send two schools from each heat through to the final. The judges are Helen Richmond, head of music and arts, Bradford Music Service; Chris McElroy, assistant director of music, Diocese of Leeds; Tom Leech, director of Music Bradford Festival Choral Society; and Andrew Teague, choirmaster and organist at Bradford Cathedral.

The winning choir will get to perform Oh Happy Day with London Community Gospel Choir live at the final and will also win time in a recording studio. All children taking part in the choir contest will go home with a certificate.

Adam Renton, general manager of Bradford Theatres, says: “Last year’s choir competition was a joy to watch, seeing all those children from across the Bradford district perform on stage in such a prestigious venue was amazing.”

The BD1 LiVE Goes Choral final, featuring the London Community Gospel Choir, is on Saturday, February 5, at 7pm. For tickets, ring (01274) 432000.
