Schools from across the district will be competing in the final of Bradford Theatres’ first-ever schools choir contest this weekend.
The six finalists – Allerton Primary, Ashland Primary in Ilkley, Clayton Primary, Keelham Primary, Thackley Primary and Sandal Primary in Baildon – will be competing to win the new award, under the watchful eye of the judging panel which includes Bazil Meade, conductor with London Community Gospel Choir, also seen on BBC TV’s Last Choir Standing.
The winning choir gets the opportunity to perform Take That hit Rule The World with the London Community Gospel Choir and spend a day in Bradford’s Factory Street Studios recording studio.
“It’s wonderful that this event has brought children from across Bradford together to celebrate music. I wish all the competing schools the best of luck, and I hope this is the first of many school choir competitions we host,” says Adam Renton, Bradford Theatres general manager.
The grand final will feature performances from local singer Julia Daramy Williams and The London Community Gospel Choir, which blends up-tempo gospel flair, swing-beat, R’n’B, traditional and soulful arrangements, with invigorating choreography.
BD1 LiVE Goes Choral – The Final is at St George’s Hall on Saturday. For tickets ring (01274) 432000.
