Bradford’s Black Dyke Band joins forces with the Leeds Philharmonic Chorus to perform Handel’s Messiah at Leeds Town Hall tomorrow evening (December 15).
Composed in 1741, Handel’s Messiah is an oratorio in three parts portraying Christ as the world’s saviour. The work features the popular Hallelujah Chorus which was used in the soundtrack to the 2005 film Once Upon a Wedding and the 1999 film Runaway Bride.
Handel’s Messiah is now regarded as one of the most frequently performed choral works and is commonly performed around Christmas. With over 150 years of musical heritage The Black Dyke Band is the most successful contesting band in the world. The band is the current English Champion and is also the most recorded band in the world with over 350 recordings.
Under the leadership of Music Director Nicholas Childs, and through a unique partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University, the band continues to be at the forefront of the development of the brass band movement.
