On March 22, Bradford Festival Choir will perform the Brahms Requiem, one of the acknowledged masterpieces of classical music. It was written after the death of the German composer’s mother. The text focuses on consoling the living, and the music is full of autumnal richness and lyrical melody. The choir will be joined by soloists Helena Leonard (soprano) and Alastair McCall (baritone). The work will be accompanied by the pianist Aleksander Szram, and the choir’s regular accompanist Christopher Pulleyn.

The first half of the evening will feature modern choral works by Henryk Gorecki, John Tavener, Eric Whitacre and Morten Lauridsden, and solo piano works by the composers Daryl Runswick and Basil Athanasiadis.

Tom Leech, the choir’s musical director, said: “I’m delighted by the way the choir has risen to the varied challenges.”

The concert takes place at Price Hall, Bradford Grammar School, next Saturday, starting at 7.30pm. For more information and tickets, go to bradford festivalchoralsociety.org.uk.
