It seems like an age since we had chance to relax and revitalise over a Bank Holiday. So don’t spend a minute more indoors than you have to over Easter – get out there and enjoy what’s on offer. And there’s plenty to choose from.

Some of the best-loved attractions are right here in Yorkshire, offering everything from jousting to Easter egg hunts.

The Yorkshire’s Magnificent Attractions group, founded 16 years ago, includes countryside, cities and coastlines, top attractions and four national museums.

Among a whole host of individual events, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, winner of Yorkshire’s Most Magnificent Attraction has opened a new exhibition by acclaimed American artist Ursula von Rydingsvar – her most extensive yet – which includes more than 40 works of drawing and sculpture made over the last two decades.

Events taking place at other attractions include magic shows and jousting, felt-making and print-making, the Lord Mayor’s Easter Egg Hunt in Yorkshire, the re-opening of Flamingo Land Theme Park and an Easter Egg Quiz Trail among the meerkats at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. You can even follow the Yellow Brick Road at Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax.

You’re certain to find something to entertain all members of the family, so here is just a flavour of what’s on offer, but if you want to check out everything, then full listings can be found on the Yorkshire’s Magnificent Attractions website at yorkshireattractions.org/events.

Animal lovers are spoilt for choice at a number of attractions, including the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, where you can encounter a beautiful pride of lions, visit the Land of the Tiger, meet meerkats, flamingos and anteaters among many others. And why not take part in the Easter Egg Quiz Trail and be in with a chance of a prize?

At Flamingo Land Resort you can join in the Easter Zoo Trail where you can complete an egg-themed sheet by walking round their award-winning animal collection and matching up clues.

A colony of gentoo penguins have taken up residence in the Kingdom of Ice at The Deep, in Hull, providing hours of entertainment as they chase bubbles and frolic under the magical snow machine – and if that isn’t enough, there are plenty of Easter-themed activities.

Cannon Hall Farm is hosting an Easter trail and Easter craft activities including milking demonstrations, animal feeding and small animal petting, sheep racing, ferret racing and birds of prey demonstrations.

Eureka! the Children’s Museum invites you to step into nature, conservation and the wonderful world of animals at Eureka. You can go on a bear hunt and see what happens when spring brings sleepy nature back to life and take a walk in the Eureka! Jungle.

There’s plenty of free history fun to be had at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, this Easter with Myths and Magic. As well as free magic shows, the knights will be battling it out in a jousting tournament, with falconry demonstrations showing these magnificent birds of prey bringing history to life.

Also in Leeds, the Thackray Museum will be answering questions like how many teeth we have and why we need to brush them. April is Teeth Could Talk Month, and you can find out how well you cleaned your teeth by using disclosing tablets, and you can make a plaster cast of your own teeth to take home.

The National Coal Mining Museum for England in Wakefield has a number of free canary-themed activities as well as music every day. Learn how to make pom-pom canaries in cakes, and take home hand-made thaumatropes as an Easter gift for someone. In case you didn’t know, a thaumatrope is a child’s toy that was very popular in Victorian times.

Adrenaline junkies will be pleased to know that Lightwater Valley has opened its doors for the 2014 season and once again will be bursting with thrills, chills and adventure.
