Grassington Festival is celebrating its 30th birthday in style this year with world-class music and arts, set in one of the prettiest places in the Yorkshire Dales. Running until June 26, it’s packed with music, theatre, comedy, film and visual arts. During the first week you can watch – and take part in – the Grassington Go-kart Hill Climb or be enchanted by Black Voices and Festival Chorus tomorrow. On Tuesday, there’s gentle jazz at the Devonshire, or an Audience with Alastair Campbell. Enjoy the beer-tasting on Wednesday, while Thursday sees Acker Bilk & His Paramount Jazz Band entertaining. There’s street theatre next Saturday, brass on the Green on Sunday, as well as Fascinating Aida. For full details, check out the website at grassington-festival.org.uk.

The streets of Bradford will be filled with colour as thousands of children and adults from across the district take part in the Lord Mayor’s Carnival Parade that winds its way through the city centre. This year, the parade celebrates the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity through the iconic image of the tiger. The parade starts from Northgate at 12.15pm.

It’s Open Farm Sunday tomorrow, when you have a chance to meet the farmers who grow your food. There will be tractor and trailer rides, an opportunity to see sheep being sheared, cows being milked or even chicks hatching, as well as farm walks and nature trails. Among the farms taking part are Prism City Farm c/o Prism Youth Project, Walker Drive, Bradford; Oakwell Hall and Country Park, Nutter Lane, Birstall; Newdene Rare Breeds Farm & Small Animal Rescue, Newsholme Manor, Slack Lane, Oakworth; and Leeds City Council Home Farm, Temple Newsam, Leeds. You can join in a mass warm-up session, goal-shooting skills, dribbling tips, keepy-uppies practice and a ball- control assault course. The activities are open to all children, and any big children eager to have a kick about too, and people of all abilities.
