Smiles would have been nice...

The Red Room in Queensgate, Bradford The Red Room in Queensgate, Bradford

“There’s a new café in town.” These words are always well-received in our office, so off I went in search of it.

The Red Room has taken over premises on Queensgate and all but one table was occupied with customers chatting.

Despite the cost being the same, I opted for a takeaway and ordered a baked potato with tuna and red onion mayonnaise (£2.40).

Being busy at work, the wait was longer than I would have liked, and there was no apology from the two female staff, neither of whom were very friendly. The gorgeous potato more than made up for their lack of affability, however.

The filling was lovely and the salad, with grated carrot, tomato and lettuce, was fresh and crunchy.

I also bought a chocolate chip cookie (50p), to brighten up the afternoon and a bottle of water (75p). The total came to £3.65 which is a very reasonable price.

The Red Room has a good choice of hot and cold paninis, baguettes, sandwiches and potatoes, as well as home-made soup and daily specials.

What I saw being prepared looked lovely. If only the staff smiled a bit more.
