Deli Chez is on busy Leeds Road, vying for attention among rows of other eateries.
I spied it as I drove by and found there was plenty of space to pull up the car outside. The deli has a varied menu comprising paninis – fillings include tandoori chicken and sliced lamb – tortilla wraps, jacket potatoes, melts, toasties and sandwiches. Sandwich fillings range from prawn mayonnaise to sliced beef.
I went for a tuna and cheese panini for £2.20. There was a small queue as I waited and one elderly man kindly offered me a place on the long window seat. The staff were quick and efficient and the panini was ready in no more than five minutes. I also bought a bag of crisps for 50p and a large apple, priced 80p.
The panini was warm and tasty, with a generous filling of tuna and cheese nicely melted on top. The cheese was a bit too runny for me, and I suspect it wasn’t very thickly sliced or grated, but it was just light enough for lunch.
I’d certainly be tempted to pop in again if I’m driving past.
