Friendly staff, tasty food, unbeatable prices – they are my hoped-for ingredients when I visit a takeaway.
Sadly, it’s not that often you find all three – but I did, when I pulled over at Premier Sandwiches in Wharncliffe Road, Shipley.
Just off – and clearly visible from – Valley Road, there was ample space to park outside the welcoming cafe, with chairs outside. I checked out the extensive menu and was sorely tempted by the double egg and mushroom.
But, as I was on my way to a session of cycle training, I opted for a lighter snack – my old favourite baked potato with tuna mayonnaise. It was just right – crispy shell, moist, tasty filling.
It was large, too, and at £1.50 it had to qualify as my bargain of the week (it was only Monday after all). Better was to come, with a huge slice of apple pie at 40p. I paid double that for a bottle of water, bringing the bill to £2.70. My only criticism – perhaps a little too much sugar on the pie. But a small price to pay for a very nice, and amazingly cheap, lunch.
