Bernhard Schlink – The Weekend (Phoenix, £7.99) ****
A run-down, secluded house set in the German countryside is the location for the reunion of a group of friends and their comrade Jorg, who has just been released after 24 years in prison for terrorism. The comrades have all moved on from their questionable political activities and ideals but need to interrogate Jorg and find answers to vindicate their own actions all those years ago. Based on the Baader-Meinhof terrorists, the story is full of the imagery of that era and explores how ideals alter with time, very thought provoking!

John Stock - Games Traitors Play (Harper Collins/Blue Door, £7.99) ***
This book is quite a good read if you like spy thrillers. It revolves around the MI6 agent Daniel Marchant who is given the task of tracking down the world’s most wanted terrorist, and gives an insight into the internal workings of the western intelligence service. The story is quite intriguing and keeps the reader interested right up to the end.
