If you’re not going out this Christmas Eve – maybe you have some wrapping to finish, or are mounting an all-night vigil for Santa – then you’re in good company as Lee Mack returns with a festive episode of his sitcom.

He’s determined to give Lucy the perfect Christmas, but that doesn’t mean sending her off on a cruise so she can miss the whole thing, or buying her a really extravagant present.

No, he thinks what she’d enjoy most is the chance to spend yuletide with him, her parents and Daisy. (Sadly, there’s still no sign of Tim to complete the family reunion.) But if the guest list makes it sound like dinner will be a little fraught, at least the setting should be picturesque, as Lee is whisking them all off to a snug old house in the country which once belonged to his dear, departed aunt.

In theory, the place hasn’t been inhabited for years, but when Lucy arrives, she feels sure there’s a spooky presence lurking about the place.

Could it be the Ghost of Christmas Present, or is there a more rational explanation?

Not Going Out Christmas Special is on BBC1 on Christmas Eve.
