THREE pictures owned by David Bowie created by Bradford and Cleckheaton artists are expected to sell for at least £35,000 when the pop icon’s £10 million art collection goes to auction next week.

A 1929 pencil piece by Cleckheaton-born Edward Wadsworth is expected to raise between £30,000 and £40,000 at Sotheby’s in London on Thursday evening.

The next day, two oil paintings by Richard Eurich from Manningham are expected to bring in £5,000 and £8,000.

Mr Eurich’s painting, Schooner at Anchor, is tipped to sell for between £3,000 and £5,000 while his 1974 picture of a Northern Town should reach between £2,000 and £3,000.

Mr Eurich was born at 7 Lindum Terrace on March 14,1903. He was the second of five children of celebrated research bacteriologist Frederick William Eurich, who worked for the Anthrax Investigation Board and later became a professor of forensic medicine at the University of Leeds.

The young Mr Eurich went on to become one of Bradford’s most distinguished 20th century artists and he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Bradford University in 1989.

He is one of only 603 Royal Academicians who include such greats as Turner, Constable, Gainsborough and Reynolds.

Some of his work is now owned by Tate Britain and the Imperial War Museum.

Former prime minister Tony Blair also owns a major work of Mr Eurich’s which he painted in 1931 called The Club Room.

Mr Eurich was educated at Bradford Grammar School and was trained at Bradford School of Arts and Crafts, was 89 when he died on June 6,1992.

Edward Wadsworth, was born in Cleckheaton on October 9,1889, and was the only son of Fred Wadsworth, a worsted spinning industrialist whose own father established both Broomfield Mill and the firm E Wadsworth & Sons in the town.

He was educated at Godby’s School in Ilkley before moving on to Fettes College in Edinburgh.

In 1936 Mr Wadsworth completed two large paintings for the smoking rooms of the ocean liner Queen Mary and he also designed the initial letters used by T.E. Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia, in his autobiography, Seven Pillars Of Wisdom.

The British Museum and the National Gallery of Canada are among those who own some of Mr Wadsworth’s work.

Sotheby's Bowie/Collector auction is a three-part sale encompassing over 350 works from the star's private collection.
