PUB-goers wanting to find their way round the district's beer houses now have a new map at hand.

Artist Steve Lovell has come up with a route finder with a difference to guide drinkers to all pubs in the area - 372 at the last count.

The 40-year-old has mapped them out on a London Underground-style poster he has designed and hopes to sell to beer enthusiasts.

He was in Bradford yesterday and stopped off at Jacob's award-winning ale house in the city as part of a whirl-wind tour to drum up sales.

He is hoping Bradford Visitor Information Centre in Britannia House, Broadway, will stock it as well as pubs and shops, so real ale connoisseurs "can have a bit of guided fun", he said.

Although there are no street names on the map, it is possible to follow the Bradford Orderaround poster by area and for a bit of extra help there is a key and symbols panel, a pub name directory and a smaller district map.

"The first Orderaround map I did was for Leeds but it took me a couple of years on and off to get it finished. The Bradford one took me a few months using the web a lot, directories and planning applications.

"At the latest count it's all up-to-date, it's even ahead of itself! There's a few pubs on it that haven't opened yet but it includes all the new spots opening up in North Parade like The Record Cafe selling vinyl records, ale and ham.

"Hopefully some of the pubs in the city and across the district will be happy to put them on show, I'm also planning on contacting the Campaign for Real Ale group in Bradford."

He added: "I've always been fascinated by the Underground map and I enjoy beer so I thought I'd put the two together to see what I came up with. It's been fun like working out a puzzle."

Anyone interested in buying one of the posters can see it for themselves at albanydesign.co.uk, it costs £15 and can be posted out.

Bradford is the third map of its type he has created coming after one for Leeds and Wakefield and next he hopes to conquer Calderdale and Kirklees.

"I think the map will be of interest to lots of pub aficionados across Bradford because it’s interesting for people to see in front of them how many places they’ve been to and recognise. It’s also good for them to discover new places not supped in before!"
