An indoor music and arts festival, showcasing live music and visual arts from across the region, takes place in Bradford this summer.

The Shuttle Shuffle Festival returns following a successful debut last summer. The celebration of music and arts supports the work of the Piece Project, which provides opportunities for people to come together and value others through music.

As well as live music, the festival, running on August 8, 9 and 10, offers workshops and interactive events.

More than 25 musicians and bands will perform, with the line-up headed by Spanish guitarist and composer Eduardo Nieblam born in Spain and now based in North Yorkshire.

Also playing this year is Wakefield Indie band Ultrasound and Rory Hoy, an autistic and inspirational DJ and filmmaker who will play a set and talk about his award-winning film, Autism and Me.

“I’m honoured to be taking part in this urban music and arts festival to raise money for and awareness of the valuable work done by the Piece Project, which also involves people from disadvantaged communities,” says Rory.

“I hope in showing my film we can raise awareness of autism, and I hope in my DJ set everyone can have a lot of fun.”

The charismatic Reverend Chunky also makes a return, encouraging people to find their voices in communal singing sessions.

The family-friendly festival also includes contemporary art-based rooms presented as live art, with Bradford artist Jay Pee at work throughout the weekend. Also new this year is the first Yorkshire Gig Guide Grassroots awards, to be held on Friday, August 8.

Other events include an outdoor arts and crafts fair, featuring contemporary arts, photography, music workshops, and Colin Kendal master luthier showcasing his handcrafted instruments.

Four musical communities have come together to organise the festival; Eclectic Rhythm, a new website and graphic design company which makes a range of hand-printed limited edition T-shirts; Yorkshire Gig Guide, which supports grassroots music in Yorkshire; Topic Folk Club, formed in 1956, and Factory Street Studios, which offers a rehearsal, recording, and gig space for musicians.

Factory Street in Bradford is the base for the Piece Project and the venue for the Shuttle Shuffle Festival.
