The first arts festival to precede the Tour de France starts next month across the Bradford district.
Running from March 27 to July 6, the Yorkshire Festival brings together artists, farmers, cyclists and communities.
Events include Tour de Cinema film screenings in outdoor locations blending fiction and documentary. The opening Tour de Cinema event takes place Friday, March 28, at Bradford Cathedral with the world premiere of two archive-based commissions – Velorama, celebrating the Century of the Bicycle, and From Trike To Bike, which draws from the Yorkshire Film Archive.
The festival is the brainchild of Welcome to Yorkshire and is backed by Yorkshire Water, Arts Council England and local authorities.
Other events include Phoenix Dance Theatre and Scottish public arts charity NVA creating Ghost Peloton – a team of 50 road racers, stunt cyclists and projection of dancers in light suits to produce live choreography.
West Yorkshire Playhouse will host Beryl, written by actress Maxine Peake, which celebrates the sporting achievements of Morley cyclist Beryl Burton.
