An exhibition of works from the early stage of David Hockney’s career is to open at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery.

David Hockney: The Early Years will bring together items that have rarely been seen in public including the large oil painting A View of Bradford from Earl’s Court and works on paper from his time at Bradford School of Art.

The Bradford-born artist’s work will be displayed from Sunday, December 16, until Sunday, April 14.

Also being shown is a film of students from Bradford Grammar School meeting Hockney at his studio.

Christopher Skyes, author of Hockney: The Biography, will give a free talk about the artist’s work on Sunday, February 10, at 2pm. Book by calling (01274) 431212.

There will also be a film screening of Bruno Wollheim’s acclaimed film David Hockney: A Bigger Picture (2009) on Sunday, March 10, at 2pm.

Anish Kapoor returns to Cartwright Hall with sculptures accompanied by images from the Anish Kapoor studio and a video, which will run until Sunday, June 30.

Works by Sophie Ryder are on display at Lister Park and Cartwright Hall Art Gallery until Sunday, April 14. Sophie will discuss her work at Cartwright Hall on Sunday, December 16, at noon. Admission is free but book by calling (01274) 431212.
