Versatility is the watchword at Parkview in Oakworth. At first glance it may not seem too spacious a home, but inside it opens up like Dr Who’s Tardis to become all things to all people.

In it’s present guise, it acts as both home and business premises, but it has the potential to be an ordinary family home, or a family home with a self-contained annex to house a dependant relative.

The present owner came to buy it after a chance conversation with one of his customers who was looking to sell.

A quick glance round the neat home was enough to convince the potential buyer that it was the ideal place to locate his family and his business under one roof.

“The house belonged to one of my customers, and he was selling and asked if we’d like to take a look. The space and features really made the initial impact; it was just so different,” says the current owner.

“It meant I would be able to relocate my business with all that space, so it made good financial sense.”

The house lends itself to a flexzible style of living, with the lower ground floor currently used as a framing shop. It has great potential for other uses, though, including a self-contained annex or a range of businesses.

There is a hall, two reception rooms, kitchen, conservatory, three bedrooms – one with en-suite – shower room, mezzanine level study and sitting area. The lower ground floor consists of two rooms – one with a door to the front – leading into a hallway, off which are three further rooms, one with a door to the front and a wash basin.

The house had already been converted into a stylish home, with a great deal of character such as exposed brickwork. On the ground floor is an entrance hall with cast iron spiral staircase and exposed brick pillars.

Off the hallway is an open plan living area with an archway into the dining area. Taking pride of place is a centrally-located living flame coal-effect gas fire with a chimney hood.

“The fire was an existing feature and we liked it a lot,” the owner says.

The lounge is open to the mezzanine level, currently used as a bedroom, with a cast iron balustrade. Open to the eaves, the room has exposed ceiling beams, roof window and a door to the inner landing, where there is a sitting area with glass panelling overlooking the lounge, which again is open to the eaves with beams exposed.

“We haven’t had to do much, although we have made some upgrades, mainly the kitchen – which has been done in the last couple of years – and we added the oak strip flooring in the dining and walk-through area. All the other rooms have been redecorated at least once in the last year.

“The re-building of the conservatory has been our biggest job, as the previous one was in need of replacing. It’s glassed on three sides, overlooks the garden and has a slate floor and two sets of French doors. The general look we wanted was to combine old and new, which seems to work well.”

The spacious dining kitchen has a wood-burning stove, white gloss units, granite work surfaces and glass display cabinets. Integrated appliances include a double oven, five-ring gas hob and dishwasher.

Also on the ground floor is a tiled shower room and master bedroom, with fitted wardrobes and an en-suite bathroom with part-tiled walls, storage cupboard and display shelving.

The second bedroom has a beamed ceiling and fitted wardrobes, while the third is a light, airy room with windows on three sides, fitted wardrobes and decorative fireplace and grate.

“We don’t, and never have had a favourite room. They all have something to offer. The lounge has the unusual fire, while the kitchen is large and functional, and is great when the stove is lit. The front bedroom catches the early sun until lunchtime, and that’s why we have a relaxing chair in there, while the upstairs gallery is light, bright and really warm.

“Outside, the conservatory is the main feature. The paved garden at the back is sunny and private, and used all the time – weather permitting.”

“The size of the house is so deceptive from outside; it really is like the Tardis. My workshop downstairs is very convenient, and I am going to miss all the space.”
