Jack Dee, Jools Holland, The Levellers and the Black Dyke Band will all be making an appearance at this year’s Grassington Festival.

Cellist Raphael Wallfisch and pianist Peter Donohoe are celebrating their 60th birthdays with a special gala concert, while The Levellers will be celebrating 25 years together. A cappella vocal group The Swingle Singers will join the line-up as part of their 50th anniversary tour.

Launching the festival on the opening night will be The Beat, delivering 2 Tone favourites such as Mirror in the Bathroom, Can’t Get Used To Losing You and Hands of,f She’s Mine, while the Queensbury-based Black Dyke Band will play the festival marquee on Thursday, June 27. The Orchestra, featuring former members of ELO,will be livening up the Field Marquee with classics such as Mr Blue Sky and Roll Over Beethoven.

Events at the festival theatre include Jessica Walker’s one-woman show Pat Kirkwood is Angry, about the life and times of the singer who lived in Bingley with her fourth husband, and family events include Bunk Puppets and Scamp Theatre with new show Slapdash Galaxy; and theatre group Illyria’s adaptation of Dick King Smith’s Babe: The Sheep Pig, in the beautiful setting of Bolton Abbey Priory.

The festival also includes workshops ranging from dry stone walling and ‘laughter yoga’, guided walks, a mini Food Festival and Grassington’s own Yorkshire Pudding World Championships.

There’s a chance to join forager Chris Bax from Taste the Wild on BBC Countryfile or a Wild Food Foraging masterclass by John Rudden of Grassington House, which involves identifying and preparing edible plants, seeds, nuts, flowers and fungi. For the first time, Grassington Festival has its own beer, FestivAle, brewed at Wharfedale’s Dark Horse Brewery by husband and wife team, Richard and Carole Eyton-Jones.
