The popularity of landscape painting in commercial art galleries is growing, judging by the frequency with which landscape exhibitions are put on at Brighouse’s Harrison Lord Gallery.

Later this month, for example, the northern landscape is celebrated in a new show that features many works. Among them are pictures by Australian Mark Sofilas, including one called Hebden Locks (pictured).

Gallery assistant Stacey Brewer said: “His style is a mix of strong rich colours, an intriguing flattened perspective and quirky humour, and the upcoming exhibition is no exception.”

Mark is producing at least ten new original paintings for the exhibition, and will be joined by Neville Fleetwood, member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Helen Cassidy and Halifax watercolourist Paul Talbot Greaves.

The show at the gallery on Bradford Road runs from June 22 to July 13. The gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm. Admission is free.
