Russell stands up to be laughed at

Russell Howard
The Specials claimed to go out on Friday night and come home on Saturday morning… if you’re having a top two-tone night out tonight, then good on you. If not, you might still be after something to do this weekend. Well, as ever, the weekend starts here.
COMEDY: Russell Howard looks too nice to be a cutting edge stand-up. His publicity shot makes him look like an angelic choirboy shoved into a trendy T-shirt, who can’t believe his luck that he’s selling out places like St George’s Hall at £15 a throw.
That’s where he is tomorrow night with his Dingledodies tour - which sounds like something off In The Night Garden, but is probably rude.
The star of TV’s Mock The Week satirical panel show’s stand-up night starts at 8pm. Ticket details from (01274) 432000.
COMEDY: If you can’t get to Russell Howard tomorrow, stay in tonight and watch Chris Rock Live on Channel 4 at 10.35pm.
The Emmy Award-winning stand-up’s act is not for the faint-hearted, and he leaves no stone unturned in his quest for a laugh. This show features footage taken from his Kill The Messenger live events in London, New York and South Africa.
TELLY: It sounds like something acerbic columnist Charlie Brooker might have once dreamed up for his sorely missed TV Go Home website: a gathering of light entertainment stars raising awareness for testicular cancer via the medium of popular music.
Well, it’s not; it’s real and it’s on ITV1 at 8pm tomorrow. Expect Will Young, Tom Jones and Enrique Iglesias to be providing the tunes with a serious message.
Really.
MOVIE: Sadly not the John Carpenter original from 1976, but the 2004 remake of Assault On Precinct 13 is still worth a look, if only for Laurence Fishburne doing his thing.
It’s on at 10pm on Channel 4 on Sunday night, retelling the great tale of an almost-deserted police station in Detroit coming under siege from a mob of bloodthirsty hoodlums.
Kind of like Night Of The Living Dead but with thugs instead of zombies.
