THE Bradford Christmas lights switch-on is the headline attraction in a weekend of events across the district.

In addition, two stars of Bollywood will also be visiting the city, Haworth is being taken over by Steampunks, and a Victorian Christmas will be coming to a city museum.

To mark the Christmas lights switch-on, Bradford Council has organised a “spectacular show” from 5pm tomorrow.

World-renowned circus company Cirque Bijou will bring their fire and light show to the free event in City Park, which will feature street dance and dazzling visual effects.

It has worked with the likes of Take That and Katy Perry in the past.

Theatre company Spark! will bring its unique drumming act to the show, also featuring dazzling lights, costumes and choreography.

Sheffield-based fireworks team External Combustion will bring the show to a close with a grand firework finale.

Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Alun Griffiths will switch on the Christmas lights.

He said: “I’m thrilled to be taking part in this year’s Christmas Lights Spectacular.

“Previous shows have been outstanding so I’m really looking forward to seeing this one.”

Bollywood royalty Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor will be in City Park on Sunday, meeting fans from 4pm to 8pm ahead of the release of their new film, Befikre.

The event is free and there will be live entertainment throughout.

Haworth Steampunk Weekend starts today and is raising money for the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice at Oxenhope.

Today there is a burlesque evening at Haworth Village Hall from 7.30pm, and tomorrow there is a masquerade ball at 7.30pm.

Bradford Industrial Museum in Eccleshill is holding a Victorian Christmas market from 10am to 4pm this weekend.

There will be more than 80 stalls, Santa, Scrooge, children’s craft activities and more at the free event.

Also on Saturday, live wrestling will be coming to Victoria Hall in Keighley from 6pm to 9pm.

New Generation will be bringing its show to the town, featured hometown hero Liam Slater, with tickets, from £10, available from britishwrestling.tv.
