IT was a busy weekend of Halloween party fun across the district with hundreds of children making the most of the fine, mild weather to dress up.

In Harold Park, Low Moor, A fancy dress parade and competition took place on Saturday evening at the bowling hut with more than 80 outstanding costumes and outfits creating a difficult task for judges.

“It has been wonderful. We like to put on a free event for the community and pride ourselves in providing a good family day out,” said chairman of the Friends of Harold Park Angela Tait.

“We started with a ghost hunt with 300 children taking part for prizes and there was also a barbecue, tea room, graveyard scene and stalls. There must have easily been 1,000 people attend.”

In Keighley, the former Beales department store, now East Street Arts, laid on a spooky Halloween-themed open day filled with activities for children with live music, mask-making, an art exhibition, upholstery workshops, a free book exchange and ghoulish drawing. There was even a haunted room and a haunted chair.

Children dressed in spooky costumes and had their faces painted while they enjoyed the ghostly atmosphere.

In Haworth, more than 200 people took part in the annual Dragon Day Halloween event with more than 100 children dressing up for the occasion - as well as some of the adults - and joining a parade up Main Street.

The Dragon Day was the first of a traditional weekend of Halloween events in the village.

Organiser Mike Hutchinson said: “It has been terrific. The weather was kind and there was a great turnout on Saturday. We also had collection boxes to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and village events.”

There was also a Day of the Dead event in the Old Hall complete with music and food and other events going on at the Black Bull and Sun pubs.

Haworth continued the spooky entertainment with a ghouls parade, again up Main Street, followed by more fun and games.
