AS BRADFORD’S Islamic community continues its Eid celebrations, one of the city’s parks is preparing to stage the biggest Eid festival in the north of England this weekend.

The month of Ramadan came to an end on Tuesday, with Muslims celebrating the end of a month of fasting.

Prayers and feasts were held across Bradford and all over the world.

The celebrations continue this weekend when the largest Eid festival in the north returns to Bradford Moor Park in Killinghall Road.

On Saturday there will be a variety of different attractions for the whole family, including a fun fair, a bazaar with a range of products for sale, and a food court.

On Sunday there will also be live performances from some of the best-known names in Islamic music.

Nabeela Imam, one of the event’s organisers, said that this year’s festival would be the biggest so far in its three-year history.

“It has been growing year on year, last year we had 6,000 people come through the gates and this year we are expecting even more

“We have the biggest fun fair in Yorkshire for the children, and there will be all sorts in the bazaar.

“We also have the singer Milad Raza Qadri performing Nasheeds at the festival on Sunday, who is very well known and popular.

“As far as we know there are no other events like this in West Yorkshire, and people come from all over the county for the festival.

“Last year I think we even had people coming all the way from Glasgow for the celebrations.

“Eid is an important celebration, and it is about family more than anything else, that’s why our festival focuses on events for the whole family.

“It is also about having fun, a bit of time off from daily routines and taking time to pray.”

As charity is a massive part of Ramadan and Islam as a whole, the festival will be in support of Orphans in Need, which Miss Imam said did a lot of good work across the world.

The free festival will run from noon to 8pm, with people of all faiths welcome. Elsewhere, Eid celebrations have been taking place throughout the week.

Members of the Ahmadiyya branch of Islam met yesterday at the Al Mahdi mosque to celebrate Eid, with hundreds of worshippers coming together to pray, and listen to a global address from the faith’s leader.

Last night, a full moon celebration took place at the Leisure Exchange in the city centre which featured a Bollywood dance troupe and a variety of other activities.

Next Saturday, the Muslim Women’s Council is holding an Eid Milan event at the Bankfield Hotel in Bingley, at 8pm.

There will be live entertainment, and tickets cost £10, which are available from the council’s website.

Frizinghall Community Centre will host a charity Eid Bazaar on Saturday, July 16. The event, organised by the Shipley Masjid Association, will run from 1pm to 5pm at the centre, situated on Midland Road.

Entertainment is set to include a chocolate fountain, bouncy castle, face-painting, henna, games, and homemade buns and cakes, and all are welcome to attend.

Here's a look at events planned for this weekend.

In the city centre, Bradford Festival begins today and runs until Sunday, with a range of different activities taking place across the weekend for all the family.

Highlights will include street theatre, live music and dance.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Yorkshire Wartime Experience will take place in Hunsworth, from 9am to 4pm, on a show site off Hunsworth Lane.

The centrepiece of the day will be a Dakota flyover by planes which fought in the Battle of Britain. Other attractions include a battle skirmish and vehicle parades.

Also on Sunday, Bradford Park Avenue will be welcoming Newcastle United to Horsfall Stadium, in memory of former player Donald Bell, who died during the Battle of the Somme and is the only professional footballer to be awarded the Victoria Cross.

The match will kick-off at 3pm, and there will be a parade and other events before the game to mark the centenary of Donald Bell’s death.
